About

Our Story

We are a mother-daughter duo who are passionate about the different facets of health and wellness. We have learned the importance of health from our own experiences of illness. Because of this, we have both incorporated wellness into our daily lives in our own ways.

Cara was diagnosed with cancer just before her 22nd birthday, and had to undergo fertility treatments, chemotherapy, radiation and multiple surgeries, leaving her body full of toxins and wrecking her metabolism. Never wanting to go through that experience again, she began the journey of learning how to reduce the possibility of another cancer diagnosis which included lowering her toxic load and moving her body to a healthier state.

After treatments, Cara quickly gained 30 pounds and was unable to lose the weight, despite workouts or diets (incl. low carb, high protein, 1200 calories, eating healthy alternatives). After a year without success, she hired a life coach she met on Instagram that worked with her individually to follow a structured program, logging her food intake and workouts and modifying her mindset which resulted in reduction of weight. She lost 10 pounds in the first 6 weeks and the remainder of the 30 pounds over the next 8 months. She not only lost fat, but gained lean muscle mass and became confident in her body.  These experiences lead her to developing a passion for helping others with nutrition, fitness, and self care. Along with her personal journey, Cara took courses in college related to nutrition, fitness and cancer. Instead of the typical fads in dieting and fitness, she hopes to inspire people to change their lifestyles so the results are lifelong.

For years, Victoria’s health kept her from living her best life.  She was lethargic and continuously sick with colds, bronchitis and pneumonia.  She also suffered from acid reflux, asthma and chronic sinus infections.  After sinus surgery seven years ago to clear her compacted sinuses, the physician  suggested a diet change which led her on a path to recovery and to a quality of life that she had yearned for.  Removing and replacing food, body and home products not only gave energy and clarity back to her life, but she slowly reduced her medications and within a matter of months she was completely off all medications with no symptoms of illness.

Since then, Victoria has been on a journey of finding healthier alternatives in every aspect of her life.  She believes that we need to look at ways of reducing the toxic load in our bodies as we choose the products we use and the food and water that we eat and drink.  In making these decisions, growing her own food and shopping at farmers markets has become vital for eating locally sourced organic food.  She has made connections with farmers at the markets, discussing their farming practices and seeing their techniques when she participated in a CSA (Community Shared Agriculture).  More recently, she began a Garden Club at her school where her goal was to implement organic gardening activities and recipes.  Over 120 students participate and are exposed to growing food which increases students’ interest and attitudes towards a variety of fruits and vegetables.  Through her research over the last seven years she has read books, articles and  viewed webinars, websites and documentaries on the subject of health, nutrition and wellness, sustainability and gardening.  References to some of these sources will be included throughout the posts.
